Wynne, a progressive community of 9,000 residents and Cross County seat of nearly 21,000 people in northeast Arkansas, extends a warm and gracious welcome to those who come to visit or make it their home. Wynne offers the visual beauty of Crowley's Ridge. Unlike most small towns, newcomers are readily accepted and woven into the social fabric - fully recognized for what they contribute.
Wynne is situated an ideal distance from the metropolitan areas of Memphis, TN, Little Rock and Jonesboro, AR - close enough to take advantage of all their benefits.
Wynne is considered "God's Country" by many sportsmen who enjoy hunting and fishing. And those who like to enjoy nature in a more "city-fied" way can find many outdoor opportunities at Village Creek State Park just seven miles from Wynne.
Village Creek State Park is one of Arkansas' largest state parks, consisting of 7,000 acres and featuring the unique geology of Crowley's Ridge. The park offers 10 fully-equipped housekeeping cabins, 104 class "A" campsites, tennis courts, swim area, playground, golf range, hiking trails, picnic sites, pavilions, information center and gift shop. Village Creek also features Lake Dunn and Lake Austell, two of Arkansas' hottest bass fishing lakes.
Parkin Archeological State Park, just 12 miles east of Wynne, offers the fascinating study of a Mississippian Period Native American village, 1000-1550, a research station, museum and interpretive center.
Wynne's Old Railroad Town, City Park and Caboose are located downtown. The Wynne Sports Complex is a 190-acre site with nine lighted baseball and softball fields. Over 1,000 children make use of the complex.
Woman's Progressive Building, constructed in 1936, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Wynne's Farmfest is the second weekend in June. Here, you'll find arts and crafts, food, games, entertainment, an antique car show and plenty of fun for everyone. Nearby Parkin has its Visions of the Past Festival the third Saturday in September, Cherry Valley has Cherry Fest, and Hickory Ridge has Hickory Fest. These annual celebrations are enjoyed by thousands.
